【ADF Web Magazine】V&A East Storehouse in London, UK

On the 31st of May 2025, the Victoria and Albert (V&A) Archive located within the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, London, United Kingdom, called the V&A East Storehouse opened its doors to the public. As an institution dedicated to preserving the V&A museum’s records, this division was established in 1992 with the intention to make the records publicly accessible; the V&A East Storehouse still performs the same function. The records date back to 1837, spanning creative collections such as art, architecture, product design, fashion, performance and the history of the Museum. The recent opening in May 2025 was an anticipated opening because it provides unprecedented access to V&A’s archive and marks the largest collections move in the V&A’s history.

The Grand Palais, a historic landmark in Paris, has reopened following a major renovation that spanned nearly four years. Originally constructed for the 1900 World’s Fair, the building has been transformed into a progressive space that accommodates a wide range of contemporary cultural activities, while honoring its iconic architectural grandeur. The theme of the renovation is a seamless fusion of history and modernity, resulting in a space that embodies sustainability, functionality, and artistic expression. Ami Paris, a French brand popular in Japan, has opened its flagship store on Rue de Turenne in the North Marais district of Paris. The interior was designed through a collaboration between founder Alexandre Mattiussi and the Paris-based Studio KO. The space reflects a modern yet welcoming atmosphere, featuring robust natural materials such as limestone, wood, and leather sourced from Euville in the Lorraine region. These elements are complemented by striking details like concrete columns and mirror-finished stainless steel, creating a refined yet grounded aesthetic.

The space seamlessly integrates retail, exhibition, and food & beverage functions. Reflecting the brand’s textile heritage, the interior features silk-covered walls, red mirrored surfaces, and furnishings from the Jim Thompson Home Collection, creating an atmosphere that is both refined and immersive. Also within One Bangkok, the Swatch concept store stands as the brand’s largest flagship globally, occupying over 600 square meters across two floors in The Storeys retail zone. The interior design draws inspiration from traditional Thai pavilions, reinterpreting classic architectural forms with contemporary materials. The result is an open, flexible environment that highlights Swatch’s core values of art, creativity, and interactive engagement.

Hermès Mystery at the Grooms’, held at Pier 36 on the East River in Southeast Manhattan for 10 days starting June 19, was an immersive event created by Hermès. Participants were invited to become “detectives” in a space designed to resemble a horse-drawn mansion, where they searched for clues about a missing horse and experienced the unfolding story of its disappearance. This imaginative event reinterprets Hermès’ origins as a saddler’s workshop, built around the themes of craftsmanship and playfulness. Café Gentil is a striking space with its ceiling and walls painted in Yves Klein Blue-a color rarely used so boldly in restaurants. The owner explains that he chose the shade as a tribute to the great French artist, fitting for his French-themed café, which offers only French coffee and ingredients. Bright mid-century furniture, playful accessories, and abundant greenery add warmth and energy to the deep blue interior. Chef The Duc Ngo, known for his popular Asian restaurants across Berlin, recently opened Manon Brasserie Nouvelle inside Roomers Berlin, a renovated five-star hotel with over a century of history. The interior, inspired by Serge Gainsbourg’s song “Manon,” is described as sweet and feminine-evoking a wistful chanson of love and hate.

Catherine Commons is an apartment-style residential community for the Cornell University off-campus student population in the Collegetown district of Ithaca, New York, designed by ikon.5 architects. The project consists of six residential buildings located on two adjacent sites: Catherine North and Catherine South. Prominently lining the main artery of College Avenue and gracefully stepping down in height towards residential neighborhoods and the City of Ithaca, Catherine Commons includes studio, 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom apartments, all with private bedrooms and bathrooms and access to retail and recreational amenities including a fitness center and indoor and outdoor community courtyards.

At Gagosian Mayfair in London, I Do Not Come to You By Chance marks Ghanaian artist Amoako Boafo’s first solo exhibition in the city. The exhibition was spatially designed by architect Glenn DeRoche of DeRoche Projects, continuing a series of collaborations with Boafo that includes the writers’ and curators’ residency dot.ateliers｜Ogbojo in Accra and the Volta Pavilion, constructed using reclaimed timber from Ghana’s Volta Region.Approaching the exhibition as a “mode of translation,” DeRoche reinterprets the communal and cultural context underpinning Boafo’s work into spatial form. Two architectural interventions anchor the exhibition: Courtyard Pavilion in Gallery 1 and Nkyinkyim in Gallery 2. Both spaces treat architecture not as a neutral backdrop but as a medium that amplifies the themes found in Boafo’s portraiture—strength, resilience, and collective identity.
