As the BLT community continues to expand, the awards aim to recognize projects that contribute fresh perspectives and advance the built environment through thoughtful design. Submissions for the Awards will be accepted until September 6 via the official awards website.

London-based design and research studio Wedge has unveiled "Altum," a bespoke furniture collection created for Hotel Alpin in the Swiss Alpine village of Saas-Fee. Commissioned as part of the hotel's ongoing commitment to contemporary design and craftsmanship, the collection explores the relationship between geology, computational design, and circular manufacturing. Combining 3D-printed silica sand with hardwood and glass, each piece transforms the pressures, stratification, and erosion patterns of the surrounding Alpine landscape into functional furniture.

Like every year, I made my way back to Place Saint-Sulpice in Paris's 6th arrondissement. This ceramics market has run since 1997, and the sight of stalls filling the whole square around the fountain never gets old, no matter how many editions I've seen. This year's dates were June 25–28. Over 100 ceramicists from France and abroad gathered, showing everything from raw stoneware to gilded porcelain, sculptural pieces standing alongside everyday ware without distinction. What I like about this event is that it stays familiar year after year, yet always brings new makers to discover.

A Solo Exhibition "To Hold Summer" by Ayumi Aoki to be held at FUJI GALLERY SHINJUKU for July 18 to August 30, 2026. Aoki, born in 1982, creates imagined landscapes inspired by the glimmer of water, seasonal changes in light, the colors of nature, and scenes that remain in memory. Combining collage made from torn watercolor paper and washi with acrylic brushstrokes, she brings fragments of color and form together within a single pictorial space. Her paintings contemplate the beauty of things that are constantly changing and will eventually disappear, reflecting a Japanese sensibility associated with mono no aware—the awareness of beauty and poignancy found in impermanence—and with utakata, the fleeting image of bubbles on water.

Held in New York in May 2026, Audible Story House was a limited-time immersive experience created by Audible, the world’s largest audiobook service. Conceived as a “bookstore without books,” the project translated the experience of audio storytelling into a physical environment. Located in the Bowery district, the three-story venue invited visitors to discover content by inserting audio cards, known as Story Tiles, into listening stations installed throughout the space. Each card provided access to a three- to five-minute audio sample, allowing visitors to explore a wide range of narratives as they moved through the venue. Rather than functioning as a conventional exhibition, each area was designed as a dedicated listening environment. A particular highlight was the listening lounge equipped with Dolby Atmos technology, where sound moved three-dimensionally above, below, around, and behind the listener, creating a highly immersive auditory experience. The concept of exploring stories while physically navigating the space added a unique dimension to the experience.

Matin Kim Flagship Store Seongsu is a content-driven retail space designed to embody the brand’s distinctive sensibility and the spirit of contemporary street culture. More than a conventional store, it provides an immersive environment where visitors can experience the brand’s identity and values firsthand. The exterior, characterized by metallic materials and glossy finishes, harmonizes with Seongsu’s trend-conscious urban atmosphere. Inside, cool-toned metal surfaces and carefully orchestrated lighting create a futuristic, highly sensory setting, while digital-inspired elements reinforce the brand’s contemporary aesthetic.
Worksout Seongsu Flagship Store reinterprets an existing building as a contemporary retail destination while preserving the industrial character that defines the Seongsu district. The design minimizes unnecessary interventions, instead emphasizing the building’s original structure and raw materiality. Exposed ceilings, concrete surfaces, and metal finishes establish an atmosphere that is both rugged and refined. By embracing the existing architecture rather than concealing it, the project creates a strong connection to the neighborhood’s manufacturing heritage while offering a distinctly contemporary shopping environment.

Opened last summer, Flip-N-Fry is a burger restaurant distinguished by its bold use of primary colors. Designed by German interior designer Bruzkus Greenberg, the restaurant showcases its vibrant and energetic interior through large street-facing windows. The indoor and outdoor dining areas, together with the ordering zone, are unified by a bright yellow color scheme, while striped patterns reinforce the visual identity. These elements evoke familiar burger-shop motifs such as cheeseburgers and fries, transforming color into a memorable expression of the brand.
Artist Olafur Eliasson, renowned for creating immersive installations inspired by natural phenomena such as light, water, and wind, recently completed “Windows for Moving Light, ” a stained-glass installation for a cathedral. Created to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of German Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich, the work was developed through an analysis of Friedrich’s treatment of light. Based on this research, Eliasson derived a palette of 65 colors, which was translated into 3,383 hand-blown glass elements to create the cathedral’s new stained-glass windows.

On the western coast of Greece’s Peloponnese region, a former wine-storage and export facility has been transformed into a distinctive seaside hotel that blends industrial heritage with contemporary hospitality. Known as Dexamenes Seaside Hotel, the project reinterprets a complex of concrete wine tanks and stone outbuildings dating back to the early twentieth century by K-Studio, preserving the site’s history while introducing new uses and experiences.
