ADF Art Gallery Project Vol.32 Kiyoo Ota Solo Exhibition “Grid”

Kiyoo Ota 《Diamond Structure》

ADF (NPO Aoyama Design Forum) will hold its 32nd “ADF Art Gallery Project” featuring the solo exhibition “Grid” by Kiyoo Ota from February 21 (Fri) to March 8 (Sat), 2025. The artist explores themes of perception, space, and order from an architectural perspective, shaking our spatial awareness.

Kiyoo Ota “Diamond Structure”

The grid is a concept used in architecture, design, mathematics, and urban planning. It is a mesh structure of regularly arranged lines and dots, functioning as a fundamental framework that visually and physically expresses order and structure. However, it can undergo unexpected transformations when intersecting with other forces or visual effects.

Based on an architectural perspective, Ota delves into the themes of vision, space, and order. Starting from the grid structures used in architecture, he explores their potential in visual and philosophical contexts. Through optical phenomena such as moiré patterns, he presents moments where static order becomes unstable and a dynamic, uncertain space emerges, offering a unique sense of qualia.

Kiyoo Ota “Flower Diagonal Stainless Steel”

Perspective in architecture functions as both a framework for spatial understanding and a filter that limits perception. Ota deconstructs and reconstructs the cube, the fundamental form of architecture, challenging the illusions and limitations brought by perspective. This exhibition questions that filter and presents works that shake our understanding of space itself.

With his architectural background, Ota reveals contradictions and possibilities inherent in the universal structure of the grid. He proposes new spatial experiences, offering moments where regularity and fluctuation intersect—inviting us to rethink our worldview.
