ADF Art Gallery Project Vol.14 "The World is my Canvas"

ADF (NPO Aoyama Design Forum) will host artist Den's exhibition "The World is my Canvas" as the 14th "ADF Art Gallery Project" from June 17 (Friday) to June 25 (Saturday) 2022.

Content of the Exhibition:
The first time when Den saw a painting by the French painter Henri Matisse (1869 – 1954) she was moved by the intense colourism and the flattened forms he used to animate the canvas.

Over the years, many artists have influenced my work but, as she presents here by the first solo art exhibition after having taken part in showings at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum and the National Art Center Tokyo, she realizes the lingering impact of Matisse and the French school has shaped how she views and considers art.

In this exhibition, "the World is my Canvas", She wants to invite to share two of the concepts, that she believes, are part of my approach to painting:

The first one is the essence of color as a living and vibrant element that can be found everywhere in our daily life. It is her opinion that color shapes reality and can be absorbed the spectator. She has tried to incorporate that perception into the paintings displayed here today.

The second concept is the principle of juxtaposition. The contrast (and sometimes contradiction) between basic ideas like human/nature, animated/inert, and mundane/divine is something that fascinates her. She thinks presenting disparate things side by side helps reveal their nature.

Art goes beyond what we can see in museums or galleries. Everything is or can be, artistic. The world is a giant canvas for us to fill with the colors and forms we carry inside. Please join her as we try to do just that.

Biography
Born in 1978 in Suzhou, China, and residing in Tokyo.
She studied painting from a young age, and the nature of her hometown enriched her sensibility which she still has. After pursuing a career in commerce and international business in Japan from 1998 to 2008 and in Spain from 2008 to 2013, she returned to Tokyo in 2013 and began her career as a professional artist.

Her life in China, Japan and Spain has influenced her work as she has been an insider and outsider in all three countries.
