| Paris News February 2026 |
We have received a new report supported by GARDE!
In December 2025, the Halle de l’Arsenal Biltoki food court opened in Rueil-Malmaison, west of Paris. A former NATO facility has been transformed into a vibrant “gathering place for food.” The interior feels expansive, thanks to its high ceilings and exposed truss structure, while the interplay of concrete, steel, and polished floors preserves the building’s industrial character and introduces a sense of warmth. That same month, the Île-de-France region welcomed its first urban cable car system, Câble C1. Connecting Créteil and Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, the approximately 4.5-kilometer route is designed to integrate seamlessly into the urban landscape while clearly expressing only its essential functions. The project is drawing attention as a symbol of new possibilities for urban mobility and sustainable transportation. |

| 【ADF Web Magazine】Eri Maeda’s Solo Exhibition “Come Meet the Monsters” at TRIQUETRA |
In February 2026, Paris-based Japanese artist Eri Maeda will present her solo exhibition Come Meet the Monsters in Paris. The exhibition features a series of hand-built ceramic creatures that exist between object and body, evoking both sculptural forms and character-like presences. Humorous yet subtly unsettling, the works invite viewers to sense a quiet shift within familiar shapes and textures.
Rather than portraying monsters as external threats, Maeda presents them as embodiments of emotions shaped by shame, taboo, and internalized social norms. Awkward or even unsettling at first glance, these creatures function as guardians of what is usually hidden or suppressed within us.
The exhibition unfolds across three spaces—an entrance, an office, and a beauty room—each symbolizing environments governed by social expectations and self-discipline. By placing her monsters within these settings, Maeda gently questions contemporary values surrounding productivity, appearance, and self-management.
In the basement, the artist reinterprets the Japanese purification ritual Wakuguri through an immersive installation using curtains instead of a traditional hoop. Passing through the space alongside a monster’s outstretched hand becomes a symbolic act of release and reflection. Through sculpture, space, and shared experience, Come Meet the Monsters invites visitors to encounter vulnerability not as weakness, but as a quiet source of resilience. |

| 【ADF Web Magazine】Renovating and Residing in Affordable Properties in Japan Part 19 |
In this article, Akihiro Yamamoto examines the challenges of converting existing houses in Japan into accommodation facilities. He explains how renovation projects are shaped by a complex overlap of accommodation-related laws, building regulations, and fire safety requirements.
Focusing on older properties, Yamamoto highlights the issue of nonconforming buildings and the high costs that can arise when renovations trigger the need to comply with current building standards. The article also outlines key considerations such as guest room requirements, soundproofing, water and electrical systems, and fire safety measures.
By offering a clear overview rather than prescriptive solutions, this piece helps readers understand the importance of careful planning, professional consultation, and community awareness when adapting traditional housing for modern accommodation use. |
