The Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo "David Hockney Exhibition"
The "David Hockney Exhibition" will be on view at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo from Saturday, July 15, 2023, to Sunday, November 5, 2023. This is the first major solo exhibition in Japan in 27 years of David Hockney (1937- ), one of the most innovative painters of our time. For over 60 years, the British-born Hockney has presented a wide range of works in painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and performing arts. This exhibition presents a series of large-scale paintings depicting the natural environment of his hometown in East Yorkshire, which can be considered a culmination of recent years, from his early masterpieces painted on the West Coast of the United States in the 1960s to paintings he did in Normandy in northern France during the lockdown caused by the new coronavirus. This is the most extensive exhibition ever held in Japan, featuring more than 100 works by Hockney, including new works 90 meters long.

MOT Collection Membrane of the Time Special feature | YOKOO Tadanori―Ever-Changing, Like Water 100th Anniversary of Birth | Sam FRANCIS

The Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo houses approximately 5,700 artworks in its extensive collection, which spans the modern and contemporary periods with a focus on art of the postwar years. Each installment of the “MOT Collection” exhibition introduces artworks in the collection from various themes and angles in its effort to convey the diverse appeal of contemporary art.
On the 1st floor, works from the end of the 1980s onward will be presented under the title, “Membrane of the Time”. Starting with recently acquired works by MIKAMI Seiko, we introduce a diverse selection of works including those by ISHIHARA Tomoaki, HIRAKAWA Noritoshi, HOMMA Takashi, KAIHATSU Yoshiaki, KATO Mika, NAWA Kohei, MOMOSE Aya, HAN Ishu, Thomas DEMAND, FANG Lijun in an attempt to look at the changing concepts of the body and outlook on life that is observed there.
The 3rd floor section titled, “Special feature: YOKOO Tadanori―Ever-Changing, Like Water” introduces works centering on those added to the museum’s collection on the occasion of the artist’s solo exhibition held in 2021. Featuring Yokoo’s oeuvre spanning from the 1960s to recent, the exhibit explores new appeals of his artistic practice through focusing on expressions related to “water” that appears in many of his rich variety of works. In addition, works by artists with a deep connection to Yokoo will be presented.
Visitors are also invited to enjoy a series of large-scale paintings by Sam FRANCIS, of which this year marks his centennial.

Art Tower Mito Mito Civic Hall Opening Commemorative Project - Opening the Art Center 2023 -
Playing with the Community" The second exhibition of "Opening the Art Center" to celebrate the opening of the Civic Center, which opens next to the Art Tower Mito.
In the contemporary art gallery of Art Tower Mito, which is the main venue, a wide range of people, from children to seniors, can enjoy creating and interacting. We will present projects created in collaboration with groups and citizens of the city, which serve as a basis for urban development.
Let us go to the art center, where the situation changes depending on the project and something new is created.

21_21 DESIGN SIGHT Special exhibition "Material, or"
21_21 DESIGN SIGHT will present a special exhibition "Material, or" starting July 14, 2023. This exhibition seeks to decipher and rediscover the connection between us and the materials from the infinite history of the Earth.
The director of the exhibition, Mr. Satoshi Yoshiizumi, is a designer who continues to convey new forms of design from a unique perspective that has emerged from independent research projects. In addition, we have invited art anthropologist Toshiaki Ishikura and biomimetic designer Jun Kamei to participate in the planning. The exhibition explores the various ways in which humans interact with nature from the perspectives of art, design, and anthropology. The exhibition will also introduce how material science updates our senses. We hope you will enjoy it.

Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka Special Exhibition "Mingei: Beauty in Life"
The Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka, will hold its first exhibition since its opening with the theme "Mingei: Beauty in Life" from July 8 (Sat) to September 18 (Mon/Holiday) 2023. "Mingei" is a folk art craft preached by philosopher Muneyoshi Yanagi about 100 years ago. The concept of "folk art", which appreciates the beauty of the every day and cares for the materials and craftsmen, is in demand again today and is becoming a familiar part of our lives. In this exhibition, we will unravel the theme of "clothing, food and living" in relation to folk art and show beautiful folk art pieces that were used in daily life. Please take a look.

Echigo-Tsumari Satoyama Museum of Contemporary Art MonET permanent exhibition
The Echigo-Tsumari Satoyama Museum of Contemporary Art MonET will host a series of exhibitions as a new initiative. Four guest curators and four exhibitions are planned for 2023, and the guest curators and four artist groups have already been determined. In addition, a solo exhibition of the artist collective "Catharsis no Shore" will be held as Vol. 1 from Saturday, July 1, 2023, to Sunday, August 27.

Vol.1 "Material Shop Catharsis Kishibe Tokamachi Shop x 'Shizo Data GP 2022-2023' Record Exhibition"
Kishibe of Catharsis is a work that imitates a stall that sells the video and image materials it collects by weight. Kishibe" opens exclusively at the Echigo-Tsumari Satoyama Museum of Contemporary Art MonET. The data collected so far will be released at the museum, and events will be held during the exhibition where people can purchase the data and interact with the artists.

"BankART Under 35/Over 35 2023" by five groups of artists in Yokohama City
BankART1929 is a leading project under the "Creative City Concept" promoted by the City of Yokohama to revitalize the city using historic buildings, warehouses, etc. for culture and art. "BankART Under 35 / Over 35 2023" will be held from July 6 (Thursday) to July 23 (Sunday) 2023 at BankART KAIKO and BankART Station, which will serve as promotional venues for the project.

Manga Circle of Tokyo University of the Arts Tokyo Geijutsu Bankakai Volunteer Exhibition "Dedevelopment - Kihen -"
The "Nihonbashi N11 Gallery" operated by POP ROCK will be open from Saturday, July 1, 2023 to Friday, July 14, 2023. We will be showing the exhibition "Dedevelopment - Kihen -" by members of the Tokyo Geijutsu Bankakai manga circle at the Tokyo University of the Arts. Like ukiyo-e, modern manga is climbing the ladder of culture. Tokyo Geijutsu Manji Gakai's "manji" is a quote from Katsushika Hokusai's "Gakyo Ronin Manji," which he used in his later years.
